Light matters

Winter walkers live on borrowed light. Planning the walk around the daylight window, rather than against it, changes the season.

Take the brightest hour

Check the window between late morning and early afternoon, and take the walk inside it when the schedule allows. Even overcast daylight regulates the body clock better than any evening lamp.

On working days, the lunchtime loop stands in. Ten minutes of real daylight at noon, noted briefly in the journal, holds the line until the weekend restores the longer circuit.

Respect the dark version

The same loop after dark is a different walk: shorter, warmer-dressed, and ending at the lamp. It counts, and on hard weeks it is the walk that happens.

Keep the evening version gentle and the breathing easy, and let it end at something warm. The dark walk’s purpose is closure, and closure does not require mileage.
