Mobility for desk days

A desk freezes the hips and rounds the back by lunchtime. Five movements, done twice daily, keep the working day from stiffening into the evening.

Choose the honest five

Cat-cow, a standing forward fold, a lunge with hands on the chair, shoulder rolls, and a doorway chest stretch cover what the desk attacks. Each is held for six slow breaths, which makes the whole set five minutes and no excuse.

Attach the set to existing anchors: after the first coffee, after lunch. Mobility practised at anchors happens; mobility practised when free does not, as every abandoned gym membership attests.

Soften the sitting itself

Raise the screen to eye height, keep the feet flat, and stand for calls. The best mobility work is the stiffness never created, and the desk setup decides most of it.

A rolled towel at the lower back, a book under the laptop, and a habit of standing each hour cost nothing and return the evening yoga session to a pleasure rather than a rehabilitation.
