The after-walk stretch

The walk’s best companion is five minutes of stretching while the muscles are warm. Calves, hips, and shoulders, in that order, repay the day.

Stretch what walked

Wall stretches for the calves, a standing quad pull, and a slow seated forward fold address the walking engine directly. Hold each side for six breaths, and let the stretch be a question rather than a demand.

The shoulders, which walked without moving, deserve rolls and a doorway stretch; they carry the cold tension the walk produced even though the legs did the distance.

Finish warm and horizontal

End with the legs up the wall for a few minutes if the floor allows, blanket under the hips. This quiet inversion is the relaxation the whole outing was for, and it reads as rest rather than exercise.

Then the warm drink, then the notebook line. The stretch, the drink, and the line together close the walk properly, and closed days stack into a winter that ends well.
